How and Why to Build a Press Kit for Your Store
When representing your bookstore at the Heartland Fall Forum, it's extremely helpful to have a press kit in your hand when connecting with publishers, industry reps, and fellow booksellers. Not only is it a useful icebreaker to starting conversations, it's an excellent take-away that positively promotes your store after the show. Sometimes referred to as a one-sheet, it is a superb take-away and a promotional tool for independent bookstores.
We highly recommend taking the time to create a press kit for your store. Going through the process is an extremely useful tool for bookstore owners, managers and staff internally as well, as it's an excellent way to make sure everyone at your store is telling the same story.

Our counterpart NAIBA hosts bookseller/publicist speed dating every year with New York publicists, and thus have a wealth of information about how to do create a press kit for your bookstore. They have generously agreed to share their resources with us.
There are many sample press kits on NAIBA's website, and the director recommends BookTowne and Oblong Books as excellent samples.
